How to Compare Solar Installation Quotations in Kerala
Two quotes with the same kW rating can describe very different systems. Compare their scope before comparing their totals.

Start with the same design basis
You cannot compare two totals until both installers are solving the same problem. Give each installer the same recent electricity bills, consumer category, sanctioned load, roof information and backup requirement. Confirm whether the target is bill reduction, selected-load backup or both.

Compare the equipment scope

“Tier 1,” “premium” or a long warranty headline is not a complete specification. Ask for the exact written warranty terms and exclusions that apply to the offered product.
Separate on-grid from hybrid cost
On-grid solar is primarily designed for bill reduction and a standard system shuts down during a grid outage. Hybrid solar adds compatible power electronics, battery storage and a critical-load circuit. Battery usable energy, peak power, starting current and future replacement assumptions all affect price.
If one quotation is on-grid and another includes backup, the totals are not comparable. Ask for separate solar-generation and backup scopes.
Check roof, cable and approval variables
Roof height and condition, shade, waterproofing interfaces, scaffolding, module layout, cable distance, inverter location, earthing and the existing distribution board can change the work. A provisional quote should label unresolved quantities instead of quietly assuming the easiest site.
For a grid-connected project, confirm who handles the application, feasibility, completion evidence, inspection coordination, agreement and metering steps. KSEB and other authorities control their own decisions and timelines.
Read subsidy as a condition, not cash in hand
The current PM Surya Ghar route provides capacity-based central assistance for eligible residential consumers, subject to the official process. Commercial projects are not eligible for the individual residential assistance described on the solar subsidy Kerala page.
Ask whether the price shown is before or after an expected subsidy, whether the customer pays the gross amount first, and what happens if eligibility or release differs. Do not compare an unsubsidised total with an “after subsidy” total without reconciling both.
List inclusions and exclusions
Review taxes, application or inspection fees, meter-related charges, roof repair, civil work, waterproofing, scaffolding, electrical upgrades, internet connectivity, monitoring subscriptions, cleaning and preventive maintenance. Unknown work should be stated as provisional or excluded.
Test the savings assumptions
An estimate should show the assumed annual generation, degradation, tariff or avoided cost, self-consumption/export treatment, downtime and maintenance. A payback result is a model, not a guaranteed return. Compare models using the same assumptions.
Final acceptance checklist
- The capacity follows bills and usable roof, not a package target.
- Equipment and allowed substitutions are written.
- Structure, protection, cable and earthing scope is explicit.
- Approval responsibilities and exclusions are named.
- Subsidy, finance and battery backup are treated separately.
- Generation and payback assumptions are visible.
- Monitoring, warranty records and support contacts are part of handover.
